The 3rd Annual Festival of Lights at Kaua’i Historic County Building will be open for visitors and residents to enjoy Fridays and Saturdays until New Year’s Eve from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Festival of Lights began three years ago as a way to preserve the collection of one-of-a-kind handmade ornaments and moving light dislays handcrafted by Josie and joe Chansky. The elaborate display had been mounted annually at thei rhome on Kawiahau Road, and was affectionately called “the Kapaa Christmas House” by the thousands of people who came each year to marvel at the intricate lights and decorations.
Unfortunately, three years ago, Joe died leaving his wife unable to mount the legendary display. Joe’s final wish was that the children on Kauai would see the lights once again. Thanks to the efforts of Seacliff School and volunteers ialdnwide, the Chansky Collection is now displayed annually at the Festival of Lights.
The community is invited to enjoy the opening ceremony, caroling, parade and fun at the is Free community event.
To give as many residents and visitors as possible a chance to see this legendary display, Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet visitors on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6-8 p.m. until Christmas – including Christmas Eve. The lights will stay lit in the park until New Year’s. Arrangements for special viewing are available upon request.
To make the holiday’s bright for everyone on Kauai guests are requested to bring canned goods for the Salvation Army and a new toy for PMRF’s Toys for Tots Campaign.
This year’s Festival of Lights Display was made possible by King Auto Center, Wal-Mart, Garden Island Telecommunications, Rasco Supply, Kauai Electric, Lihue’s Ace-Ben Franklin, and generous volunteers island-wide! For further info contact: Elizabeth Anne Freeman at 828-0014, Fax 828-0015.
