Besides the 17,000 acres which represent most of the land Amfac still owns on the island, there are a few other parcels for sale as the company seeks to divest all but several hundred acres of its Kaua’i holdings.
For $15 million, a 1,395-acre parcel at Lihu’e, Kipu and Niumalu is on the market, and 465 oceanfront acres from Hanama’ulu Bay to the Wailua Golf Course are being offered for $3.9 million.
All are listed by Bob German, owner and broker of Aloha Island Properties.
Amfac/JMB Hawai’i president Gary Grottke said earlier that the company would sell nearly all of its property on the island, save its former Lihu’e Plantation power plant site and some residential-zoned land at Lihu’e and Hanama’ulu the company still hopes to develop into housing.
In mid-September, Amfac Sugar Kaua’i announced it would cease sugar operations as of Nov. 17. From a workforce of 400 at the former Kekaha Sugar and Lihu’e Plantation operations, only about 50 employees remain working for Amfac on Kaua’i, most operating the power plant. Some workers are maintaining the remaining acreage and equipment until both are sold.
