For many years, Lynn Alapa of Cafe Hanalei at Princeville Resort has displayed qualities that some people would consider award-winning, according to her supervisors. Now, she has the award to prove it. She is recipient of the latest Po’okela Award.
For many years, Lynn Alapa of Cafe Hanalei at Princeville Resort has displayed qualities that some people would consider award-winning, according to her supervisors.
Now, she has the award to prove it. She is recipient of the latest Po’okela Award.
“Lynn radiates the aloha spirit in everything she does,” her supervisors said. “She is cheerful and generous, and demonstrates a determined work ethic that is second to none.”
She has been active in community service, and has served on the Princeville Hotel Employee Council for more than six years.
Alapa started her career at the Princeville Hotel in October 1993. During any given hour of any given day, she can be found going above and beyond the call of duty at work, her supervisors observe.
“She never hesitates to help a fellow employee in need. Even after her shift is over, she continues to pitch in and help her fellow employees when the restaurant is busy,” her managers say.
“Everyone who works with her knows you can always count on Lynn. Lynn is a true self-starter, and is always alert to the challenges of keeping things organized and efficient,” her supervisors continued.
“Her initiative can be seen in the way she takes on extra work, such as drafting side duties, helping reprogram the micros, maintaining par levels of job-related tools, and many extra things that all add up to a personal dedication to keeping everything running smoothly.”
Alapa demonstrates a personal commitment to guest service that is an example to all, her supervisors noted.
“She has a very natural and kind way about her that makes her guests feel at ease and totally pampered. She won’t hesitate to go out of her way to offer anything at all that will improve a guest’s satisfaction,” supervisors continued.
“You could say that Lynn wrote the book on anticipating guests’ needs. That is evident in the number of great comments she has received from so many satisfied guests,” according to one manager.
Alapa has served on the employee council for six years, and dedicated many hours of her time to projects that were all designed to improve the quality of life for all employees of the Princeville Resort.
Some of the projects she helped coordinate with the employee council included employee health fairs, teen dances, Christmas party decorating, employee cookbooks, plastic recycling, and the annual Kauai United Way Walkathon.
She was one of the first volunteers to help kick off the resort’s plastic recycling project. She has also served as town manager and on the board of directors of the American Youth Soccer Association.
The Po’okela Award is given out periodically to Princeville Resort employees who go beyond the call of duty in performance of their jobs, and are involved in community-service projects.
“Po’okela” is the Hawaiian word for “foremost,” or “to excel.”
