Cory Oride held a two-stroke lead over T.J. Kua to lead the University of Hawai‘i team at the 2009 Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational, Tuesday.
Oride, a graduate of Kaua‘i High School, set the pace with a two-under par 70 during the opening round Monday, but fell to 75 during the Tuesday round for an overall one-over par 145 to end in a tie for 11th place, according to results from Golfstat.com.
Kua finished Monday with an even par and matched Oride’s 75 during the Tuesday round for an overall 147, tying for 16th place.
Overall, the host University of Hawai‘i, coming off the Kaua‘i Collegiate tournament last week at the Puakea Golf Course, sits at eighth place following two days of play with a 593 (288-305).
San Diego State leads the men’s field with an overall 564 (278-286) after the second round, led by Andrew Cooley netting a six-under par 138 (70-68) to lead the individualist field. Alex Kang, third in the individualists, is three-under par 141 (68-73).
No. 3 Illinois is tied for third with a 579 (290-289) paced by Michael Drake, tied for fourth individually, at two-under par 142 (70-72).
Santa Clara University is at even par 576 (290-286) for second place, led by Rick Lamb who is at five-under par 139 (70-69), second in the individual standings.
Miki Ueoka, another Kaua‘i High School graduate, leads the Santa Clara University women’s team in that division.
Ueoka is currently tied for 29th, individually, with a six-over par 150 (73-77).
Santa Clara University is in 17th place with a 628 (313-315) with one more day to play.
University of California at Davis currently leads the women’s teams with top individualist Demi Runas netting a four-under par 68 on the opening round and was four-under par at press time. UC Davis, finishing with a 281 on the opening day, is currently one-over par as a team, but six-under par as of press time.
No. 1 women’s team UCLA is currently tied for fourth with a five-over par 581 (292-289), led by Hawai‘i golfer Stephanie Kono, tied for second individually, with a six-under par 138 (71-67).
The 2009 Turtle Bay Resort College Invitational is being played Nov. 2-4 on both the Arnold Palmer and George Fazio Courses.
The 54-hole competition hosted by the University of Hawai‘i includes 12 mens teams including No. 3 ranked University of Illinois, and 18 women’s teams which is led by the nation’s top-ranked team of UCLA.
