At the HHSAA State Track and Field Championships, the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation was represented in nine of the 32 medal round events, taking home a number of high finishes.
Waimea’s Torrey Santiago came in third in the boys’ long jump competition with a distance of 21 feet, 6 inches. He jumped the same distance on Friday to move into the finals. Trevor Mau of St. Louis won the event with a jump of 23 feet, 8 inches.
Kathleen Cadiente of Kaua‘i High School had a busy day, first finishing second in the girls’ long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 101/2 inches. Ku’uipo Nakoa of Hawai‘i Prep won the event, outpacing the field with a 17-foot, 111/2-inch jump.
Cadiente then finished second again in the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 12.88 seconds. Ashley Satterwhite of Punahou won the event with a time of 12.63 seconds.
Kaua‘i’s Canaan Bernard just eeked out a third-place finish in the boys’ 100-meter dash, putting up a time of 11.324 seconds. Campbell’s Samson Anguay was just 0.005 seconds behind, finishing in 11.329 seconds. Jonathan Padron of Damien Memorial took first with a 10.97.
Pierce Murphy, who already put himself into the KIF record books this month, finished in second place in the boys’ 1,500-meter run. Murphy’s time of 4:06.22 was just a few seconds off the first-place pace of King Kekaulike’s Reid Hunter’s 4:03.98.
