LIHUE — The second-degree murder trial date of a Kapaa man was continued until February in 5th Circuit Court.

The scheduled trial date for Steven M. Wilson, a 26-year-old former Alaska resident, was Monday, but neither the defendant or the state appeared in court as his trial date was continued prior to the hearing through stipulation of attorneys to Feb. 10, 2014.

Wilson was indicted on May 23 for allegedly causing the death of Kendra Elizabeth Lewis, 21, who was a part-time resident from Alaska, at her Kawaihau Sports Villa condominium. Lewis was found stabbed to death on April 26.

The two reportedly moved to Kauai from Anchorage and lived together at the home of a Lewis family member, according to a news release.

Prosecutors will seek a sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

County First Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Takata is representing the state.

Judge Kathleen Watanabe appointed private attorney Craig De Costa to represent Wilson. He appeared with the defendant at the arraignment hearing on May 29.

The court kept Wilson’s bail set at $1 million and he is being held at Kauai Community Correctional Center.
