PRINCEVILLE — A 35-year-old Kilauea surfer was rescued Saturday after injuring his leg off of Hanakapi‘ai Beach.

According to Kaua‘i County spokesperson Sarah Blane, County Rescue 3 responded to a report around 11 a.m. Saturday, regarding an injured male surfer at Hanakapi‘ai Beach.

R3 aboard Air 1 responded and located the Kilauea man, who had reportedly suffered a laceration to his leg while surfing.

Water safety personnel were the first to reach the scene and dressed the man’s wound before he was evacuated to the Princeville airport and assessed by medics.

The surfer was released by American Medical Response to seek further medical attention via a private vehicle.
