HANALEI — As a result of the heavy rains and flooding over the past few days, county Department of Water customers in Hanalei town and parts of Wailua Houselots are currently experiencing water service interruptions.
While repair crews are working to restore water service to these areas, residents are encouraged to conserve water, a county news release states.
Water tankers with potable water have been placed in both communities — one at Hanalei Park across from the court house and one at Wailua Houselots Park. Residents need to bring their own containers to transport water.
The well in Hanalei is down due to electrical problems and the tanks are empty, the release says. Officials are assessing this situation to determine the best course of action in restoring service to the area.
In addition to the electrical problems at the well, there is a leak in one of the pipelines that allows Princeville Utilities to feed DOW’s Hanalei system. Currently, residents near the Hanalei Pier are getting water from Princeville, and the rest of Hanalei will also receive water from Princeville as work crews systematically test the system to locate the leak, the release says.
Residents in Wailua Houselots on upper Haleilio Road, most of Kihei Road and all of Kaulana Road are without water due to a watermain break. Crews are currently working on this repair, which is expected to be completed by 5 p.m., the release says.
The Department of Water apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks Princeville Utilities Inc. for helping the Hanalei community.
