In a story in yesterday's paper, it was incorrectly stated due to a reporter's error that Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. officials oppose placement of a cellular-telephone tower at Poipu Plaza on Poipu Road.
A&B officials did offer cellular provider Nextel a potential tower site on A&B property adjacent to the plaza. But Nextel officials concluded that site would not give the company the South Shore cellular coverage it desires and would get from the Poipu Plaza site.
But A&B officials made a conscious decision not to take a position either for or against the current proposal, an A&B spokesman said.
The permit application for the Poipu Plaza site is before the Kaua‘i Planning Commission, and action on the application could take place as early as next Tuesday, June 24.
