WAILUA — A 60-year-old female visitor from Aliso Viejo, Calif., was airlifted this afternoon from atop “The Sleeping Giant” also known as Nounou Mountain.
The woman sustained injuries while hiking on the mountain and was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, a county news release states.
Two fire fighters from the Kapa‘a station and two rescue specialists along with a fire captain from the Lihu‘e station responded to the 1:23 p.m. call.
After hiking to the top of the mountain, they located the injured hiker and determined that she needed to be airlifted off the mountain. Air-1 was contacted for assistance.
The two rescue specialists hiked back down and drove to the Wailua Houselots Park, where they boarded Air-1 and returned to rescue the woman.
She was flown to Wailua Houselots Park at around 2:47 p.m. From there, medics picked her up and transported her to Wilcox.
