Proposed drinking ban in county parks moves forward
LIHU‘E — A bill that would increase restrictions on drinking in county parks took another step toward becoming the law of the land when it passed out of committee during last week’s Kaua‘i County Council meeting.
Bill No. 2320 — which would prohibit any person in a county park or recreation facility from possessing or consuming any intoxicating liquor between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. — garnered support from Kaua‘i Police Chief Darryl Perry and Assistant Chief Ale Quibilan.
Perry who described the would-be law as a tool for law enforcement, promising that KPD would not abuse it and would instead use its discretion in applying it, adding “our intent is not to bother” fishermen or others who don’t bother anybody through their alcohol consumption.
