Juicing...

Yes, we’ve all seen the infomercials on TV….Jack LaLanne, Ninja, NutriPro…..We may have purchased one and now it’s a fixture, collecting dust, in the depths of a kitchen cabinet. Well, my cousin rekindled my interest in juicing as I noticed her weight loss in some Facebook pics. She said she lost about 14 pounds (in conjunction with exercise) and has experienced increase vitality and energy. She suggested a Breville model JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus 850 watt Juice Extractor. She loves its performance and the dual speed. She also sent me “The Everything Juicing Book”! A simple yet comprehensive book, with easy recipes, targeting specific health objectives. I bought my juicer from Amazon for $150 with free shipping….and it was here in 2 days! I got some wonderful produce from the Hanalei Waipa Foundation Farmers’ Market…kale, tomatoes, greens, carrots and some beets. My concoction didn’t taste (or look) appetizing …but wasn’t too bad either. I also par-boiled the pulp, with 4 cups of water. Straining resulted in a light juice that I blended with some apple juice and raw Kombucha. I used the strained pulp in my dog’s food that I cook weekly. There is basically zero waste! The only downside is the “usual” difficulty in cleaning the filter screen.

So here’s to juicing and better health!

Aloha,

Glen
