At Birdie’s, you will find a healthy array of Kaua‘i Coffee. Birdie’s offers 13 different types of hot and cold coffee beverages. Like the names of the dishes, the beverages’ names are golf-themed — the Hole in One (shot of black coffee), the Mulligan (caramel macchiato) and Caddy (chocolate and hazelnut latte). They are all freshly brewed from Kaua‘i’s favorite coffee.
Coffee comes in two sizes — a 12 ounce and 16 ounce — and range from $2 to $5.
Birdie’s Manager Chara Gross, who has managed in various breweries and also owned a bartending business, spoke about Birdie’s role with the McBryde Foundation.
“One of the things we do to represent the McBryde Foundation is we only serve Kaua‘i Coffee at Birdie’s,” Gross said.
Gross recommended the Round Robin for this week’s drink. The Round Robin is a caramel chocolate hazelnut latte. It is $4 for a 12-ounce cup and $5 for a 16-ounce cup. Gross personally made the beverage and carefully explained how it was made: “What we do is we take a Greneda chocolate and we add caramel and hazelnut and we mix it together with our shot (of Estate Reserve Espresso Roast).
Then, we steam our milk, pour the steam milk over it, sprinkle chocolate sauce on the top and it’s ready to serve.”
Gross added that they grind their own beans for each drink.
“We grind our beans as we go, so it’s not a pre-grind bean,” she said.
The Round Robin is delicious. Period. The combination of caramel, chocolate and hazelnut alone is fine by itself.
After you add a shot of the espresso roast, you taste a sweet note from Kaua‘i grown ingredients.
Birdie’s also serves domestic and imported beer, ranging from $3 to $4. Be on the lookout for wine, as Birdie’s will start to serve different assortments of wine in the upcoming month.
