A kickoff scheduled in the middle of a work day didn’t stop high school football fans from cheering on their favorite team at Vidinha Stadium Monday.

The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation championship game prompted devoted fans from all over the island to dress in school colors, paint their faces, or in some cases, bring hand-picked ti leaves from their backyards.

The Kapa‘a Warriors beat the Waimea Menehune 17-14, capturing its first KIF football title since 1989.
