LIHUE — Pono Home, with funding and support from Kauai Island Utility Cooperative and the County of Kauai, will be offering free home efficiency services for qualified residents on Kauai this fall.
The service is free and includes eco-upgrades to lighting by replacing incandescent or halogen lighting to LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes), high efficiency water fixtures for homes with electric water heating, and installing advanced power strips that save electricity and protect your electronics. A similar program ran for residents in 2016 and was well received by participants.
“This partnership helps local families to reduce the cost of energy in their homes, and helps our island become more sustainable at the same time,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr.
To apply for the program, you must complete a survey about current home, energy costs, and income level. The survey is available online at bit.ly/2Bw29zC or can be picked up at KIUC during normal business hours.
