The Kauai Chamber of Commerce will be presenting the Governor’s Forum on July 31 at the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort near Hanamaulu from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to allow voters an opportunity to get to know the candidates better before casting their ballots.
“The chamber is focusing on the Democratic Party for the primary election,” said Mark Perriello, president and CEO for the Kauai Chamber. “For sure, we’ll have Gov. Ige and Colleen Hanabusa present at the Governor’s Forum. They’ve already confirmed.”
The Governor’s Forum will follow the forum for state House District 15 candidates that will take place July 26 at the Kauai Community College music auditorium, also from 6 to 7 p.m. There is no fee to attend either forum.
Democratic candidates in the governor’s race include Ige, Hanabusa, Ernest Carvalho, Wendell Ka‘ehu‘ae‘a, Richard Kim and Van Tanabe.
On the Republican ticket are John Carroll, Ray L’Heureux and Andria Tupola.
Jim Brewer, an educator and public access television producer, is the Green Party candidate, according to the Hawaii Politics1 website.
Selina Blackwell, Eric Link and Terrence Teruya are running as nonpartisan candidates.
Early walk-in voting starts on July 30 and continues until Aug. 9. Aug. 4 is the deadline to request a mail ballot. The primary election is Aug. 11.
