LIHUE — If you’re struggling to pay your mortgage or rent due to the April flood, help is available.
The National Association of Realtors provided a $100,000 grant that offers up to $1,800 a month in assistance, per household, to Kauai residents.
Applications will be available May 29 and accepted through July 31.
“We want to make sure the residents of Kauai have a place a to stay,” said Karen Ono, executive officer of the Kauai Board of Realtors.
It’s expected that hundreds could need such help to avoid having to move because they are unable to make housing payments as they recover from the flood.
Applicants must be the primary resident of the property for which they are seeking help to pay rent or mortgage. They must provide supporting documentation regarding their situation, such as photos of damages, insurance estimates, copies of written claims and repair estimates from contractors.
“At least, we have something we’re offering to people,” Ono said. “We’re all about housing.”
For an application, call 245-4049.
