LIHUE — The Department of Public Safety is looking to fill several vacancies throughout the state for the position of adult correction officer.
On Kauai, there are a total of 61 authorized ACO positions for the Kauai County Corrections Center, but there’s currently only one position available.
“We do not have a high turnover rate on Kauai,” said spokesperson Toni Schwartz. “Most vacancies on Kauai are because of retirement.”
In Hawaii, there are 1,375 adult corrections officers.
The starting salary for this position is $4,048 monthly. Duties include performance of security and custodial duties at a variety of posts.
“An incumbent will eventually be independently responsible on an assigned shift at any post for maintaining the safekeeping and control of adult residents in group quarters and individual activities,” the job announcement says.
Applicants must pass an extensive background check process and medical exam to qualify for these positions.
