LIHUE — State Sen. Kaili‘i Kahele of Hilo will be speaking on “The Future of Mauna Kea” on April 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Niumalu Canoe Club on Kalapaki Bay.
The presentation is on Senate Bill 3090, which would provide free access to Mauna Kea for traditional and cultural purposes. It would also limit the number of telescopes that may be authorized on Mauna Kea, establish police powers under the Mauna Kea Management Authority, and require revenues derived from Mauna Kea activities be shared with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
