Build better bus service
Here’s an idea to reduce Kauai’s traffic problem. Make the bus service useful.
I wonder how many visitors would forego renting a car if they could take their luggage with them to and from the airport on the bus? Provide convenient pick-up locations, regular service to popular spots, and many would have no need to rent a car.
Worth a try?

Trump and Kim just might win a joint Nobel Peace Prize
Trump’s presidency always seems to bring another nebulous week and another hysteria. Remember when 45 threatened North Korea promising “fire and fury” of the likes that the world had never seen before, remember the white supremacy rally in North Carolina with three deaths. The media is always finding something to criticize the president.
This past week it was announced he would meet with North Korean president Kim Jong-un , the first president to ever do so, to talk about a nuclear free zone! This after the exchange of many personal barbs against each other in the past year. This will be Trump’s time to shine and show he can lead if ever there was a time. This could lead to a Nobel prize if Trump could broker and create a nuclear free zone. Imagine all the hard line talk of “fire and fury” and “little Rocket man” actually paying off?
Trump knows business, he knows people, he is similar to Kim. These two men may both become joint Nobel Peace Prize winners, something the liberals and the media would never had deemed possible. I am hoping for the best. The haters will finally see in President Trump what many of us have seen all along — a highly misunderstood stable genius, that many gave little or no credit, but is truly making America great again.
I’m am seriously thinking a joint Nobel peace prize for President Trump and Kim Jong-un if this deal goes through. Did someone say four more years? World peace, economy on the rise, immigration reform, lowest unemployment rate in history, tackled multiple natural disasters, places America first in everything he does, and in the face of the worst bunch of crying democrats I have ever seen! I don’t care if he is yellow, orange blue or red. I only pray the main stream media eventually gives this man the credit he so rightly deserves.
James “Kimo” Rosen, Kapaa
I’d like to thank TGI for providing me with an occasional morning laugh by publishing letters from the likes of James Rosen and Debra Kekaualua.
Mr. Rosen, your description of Donald Trump as “. . . a highly misunderstood stable genius” is incredulous after what we’ve experienced the past year. It’s like saying Hitler was really a “misunderstood” peacenik. It indicates just how far removed from reality you are. First Debra announces she’s running for mayor and now you serve up this tripe. Makes me wonder what is in the water in Kapaa.
Kimo, a Joint is that thing you’ve been smoking. It has nothing to do with Comrade Traitor and Cousin Kim winning a prize.
Excellent idea, Raley Peterson!
Please run for County Council and make it happen.
..Holy Cow! Now, why did I know the author of this LTE even before reading it and seeing the signature!
Words fail me.
Hey Kimo. Trump is a sick puppy and and a bad joke. You are equally sick for supporting him.
The fact that you find him appealing has me concerned about your mental health. Please do not buy a weapon and ammo.
Kimo – Thanks for the laugh.
Fun article, Kimo. I think Trump is doing as well as anyone could. We will see what happens. I would guess that the Nobel Prize committee is too left-wing to ever nominate Trump, even if he deserves it.
Oh yeah, and the FBI and it’s Directors are suddenly “too left wing,” and trump’s ex-wives were all too left wing, and most people on Kauai are too left wing, and 66% of people polled are too left wing, and people who disagree with Beeksma are too left wing.
Oh yeah, none of them are capable of an independent evaluation based on fact. They’re just simply “too left wing!”
Raley Peterson….. You are on the right thinking direction. Do you read the garden island letter forum? I have spent many hours writing letters for the solutions to our traffic problems. You are right our public transportation system is the answer, but JoAnn’s bus is not the answer. Those buses would need to be a whole different design for the use you speak of. There are designs that would solve our problems. More efficient and equipped to do just what you are thinking. We need to get at least 50% of the rental cars off our roads and the only way to do that is offer a sophisticated public transportation system that caters to tourists and residents. Unlike the system we have which is inefficient because we have to subsidize it’s use with millions of dollars of the property owners tax money. Why lshould we have to pay for something we don’t use just to make life easier for those who ride around in half empty buses used by subsidized transportation? I have written many letters on this and it goes in one ear and right out the other of our council and government. It would definitely change the whole traffic situation as we know it. It’s just a matter of time before tourists stop coming to Kauai because of the wasted time sitting in traffic on their vacations and the damage now being done to the cars by an irresponsible county when it comes to maintenance of our roads. Just maybe when the tourist numbers start dropping someone will realize I was right. The other problem is the simple move to put a max on rentals would mean it will cut into the cash cow the state enjoys in receiving lots of money for the rented vehicles state wide. We need to create an efficient quick system that allows tourists and residents to go where they want when they want 24/7/365 and every tourist, business and resident pays for it’s use. It will create jobs and related business ventures as well. It would be second to none and a role model for all tourist destinations that would improve the quality of life for all not just the greedy pockets of government.
Trump doesn’t want a Cabinet. He wants a board of directors which plant their faces in ink and rubber-stamp everything he wants. He’s stated previously that he’s “the only one that (sic) matters.” Someone needs to inform him that the United States is a country and not one of his businesses.
This meeting was a no lose publicity stunt by Kim. It will likely not take place because, on relatively short notice, neither one will allow the other to sit in a throne unless their’s is larger.
Such meetings normally take place after teams of State Department staffers, with Ph,Ds from Georgetown University’s graduate program in international relations, have successfully negotiated a major agreement with their equally capable counterparts. Then the Big Cheeses get together for the ceremonial handshake. Putting the cart before the horse is actually dangerous. This is a 19th Century “path to war” method. The Big Cheeses can only make Big Demands that cannot be agreed to and war then becomes the only solution! Once again History is waiting to be repeated!
Raley, if you ever rode the bus you will see heaps of tourists using it right from the airport. I think you and kimo might of been toking something strong together and then writing letters? Keep it up, I am still cracking up!!
“most people on Kauai are too left wing:
You got that right! A blizzard of snowflakes.
I was referring to North Korea when I said that Trump is probably doing as well as anyone could. He appears to be doing far better on North Korea than previous presidents. In the rest of Trump’s responsibilities, I would not give him such a top score. However, the attacks against Trump have started on day one, been relentless, and are way over the top. Overall, I think Trump is doing a pretty good job, much better than Obama and Bush. The Clintons are completely corrupt, but in spite of that, Bill did not do too bad of a job as president. The bias of the Nobel peace prize committee is clear, but if you can’t see it, I won’t try to persuade you.
The crushing ignorance of the Nobel process is on display here.
The Nobel Prize selection committee does not nominate.
The selection committee is made up of 5 persons elected by the Norwegian Parliament. That hasn’t even happened yet so no assessment of the members can be made.
Conservative geezer blather is seemingly endless and seldom based on fact.
Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize for doing NOTHING! Anything is possible.
President Obama, before the award, made an immediate pivot from an American foreign policy based on war and the threat of war to one with a goal of peace and working out problems between all parties. That pivot was huge because American foreign policy is the most important foreign policy in the world and sets the tone and tenor of all other foreign policies. His pivot was the most important activity in the world regarding peace, during the year of the award.
